Helpful mods
Some very helpful mods that I use are damage indicators, OptiFine and Too Many Items. These I use on all servers and are not cheating or anything to do with that. OptiFine decreases your lag and make for a better game of minecraft, Damage indicators tells you how much health a cow or other mob/player has and therefore you can calculate how many sword/axe hits it takes to kill it. Here is a link to a mod instillation tutorial for mac.
To install different mods, simply download them and repeat the procedure with the file for the mod you would like to install. Mod packs are also available for singleplayer if you prefer offline play. Other tutorials for Windows are available on youtube.
Some of my personal favourite mods are listed on the right hand side.
